Anne-Marie Beaumont – Chair

Anne-Marie began her musical career aged 10, playing clarinet for the Harrow School for Young Musicians. Moving onto the alto saxophone, she went on to play for the Headstone Youth Band until the age of 18. After a considerable break she returned to playing in 2011, choosing to join the Harrow Concert Band. A lover of big band and swing music, she also plays for the Herga Swing Band, and the Northwood Headquarters Volunteer Band. Anne-Marie says that, “with a busy career in personal finance, music provides the perfect opportunity to unwind and meet new people in a creative and friendly environment.” Elected as Chair in April 2015, Anne-Marie lives in Pinner with her son, 2 dogs, a cat and a Naval Officer!

Rosalyn Smith – Vice Chair

Rosalyn has been playing music of one sort or another for over twenty years, and can usually be found in the clarinet section of Harrow Concert Band, pretending that she can play the alto. When not otherwise engaged moonlighting as a tenor saxophonist or playing in the Hillingdon Chamber Orchestra, Rosalyn is training as a solicitor, but hopes you won’t hold that against her! Rosalyn joined Harrow Concert Band not long after moving to London in 2015, and says “joining the band was (and still is!) a great way of meeting new people. We’re a really friendly bunch, and always looking for new players, so please do come along to a rehearsal. There’s always an exciting array of music on offer, and plenty of concerts, especially in the summer!”.

Kim Westbrook – Secretary

Kim has been a member of Harrow Concert Band since 1990 and is one of the longest serving members of the band. As well as holding the role of secretary, she is also the band’s principal flautist. In addition to her 25 years commitment to HCB she is very pro-active with several other music groups as well as a busy career in the NHS. Kim says, “It’s the friendliness of the band that has kept me coming for so many years. We have a huge selection of music and a nice group of players & abilities.”

Grant Bentley – Treasurer

An officer in the Royal Navy, Grant joined HCB in 2014 after he was posted to Northwood Headquarters. Originally from Portsmouth, he is a french horn player with over 20 years experience. His career has allowed him to play for a wide variety of ensembles including orchestras, wind bands and pit orchestras. Since joining the Harrow Concert Band, Grant has began learning to conduct and is the now the Deputy Musical Director of the band. He says, “I really enjoy the challenge of conducting. The band has some fantastic players and there is a lot of talent in our ranks. It’s my privilege to help get the most out of that talent. Anyone thinking of playing with us, or returning to music shouldn’t hesitate; come and give us a try!”

Steven Randall – “Father of the Band”

Steve Randall joined the band in 1967, starting on 3rd clarinet. He worked his way up to become principal clarinet. In 2003 the band had a surfeit of clarinets and needed a tuba player, so Steve took on the challenge and has played tuba in the band since then. Recently he has been trying to move to euphonium. At various times, Steve has served as band librarian, treasurer and chairman. Steve still plays clarinet elsewhere and is principal clarinet with Harrow Symphony Orchestra and Barnet Symphony Orchestra. He is also a member of the Classical Clarinet Quartet which performs regularly in residential homes around North London. Steve trained as a chemical engineer and is currently a freelance environmental consultant, specialising in greenhouse gas management.
